Hats & Heels
Hats and Heels 2020 is now only weeks away and we’re fully engaged with all of the details that a large event requires.
Event invitations went out in late January and our entertainment announcement followed early this month – did you get yours? If not, they may have been directed into your SPAM, TRASH or JUNK folders. To avoid this problem in the future, please create a contact which includes our mailing service address: email@example.com.
Your friends can receive our Hats & Heels notices too! Just send their names and email addresses to Nan Eastman at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be sure to keep them informed too.
You’ll notice that a 5th Dimensions-era theme is being used for our mailings. This motif will be carried through to the staging and table decorations… and perhaps even attendees’ hats and heels!
How can you help?
Sponsorship support of community members and businesses is the foundation of our fundraising. Opportunities are still available. We invite you to please consider a sponsorship, starting at $500, to support the work SINSD does throughout the year. For more information contact Pam Warnock at email@example.com.
We are still collecting bottles of wine, valued at $20 or more, for the Wine Pull. Donations can be given to your favorite SINSD member or contact Sue DeVicariis at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a pickup. For those of you who don’t know about this activity, we wrap these bottles and offer them for sale at $20. Every buyer will receive a bottle worth at least $20, with many bottles valued at much more!
Tickets are now on sale. Purchase yours today at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/ek7/ .
The Earring Project
Thanks to SINSD member Theresa Martin and her “elves”, a couple of hundred children from disadvantaged families received a pair of earrings this past holiday season to give to their moms or other important women in their lives. Theresa runs a jewelry business called Theresa Rose Designs (www.TheresaRoseDesigns.com) and donated the supplies, which were assembled and distributed to the children who, in turn, gave them as gifts. Families serviced by Crisis House, San Pasqual Academy, Los Pen Elementary’s BLAST program and Alabaster Jar received earrings for distribution.
The cycle continues for providing a safe, comfortable place for families who have been subject to Domestic Violence. SINSD and SI Poway members have welcomed two more Moms into our Transitional Housing Program, providing a furnished apartment, rent subsidies, mentoring, and more for up to 18 months. Life planning and social services to help them gain independence are managed by Crisis House.
Live Your Dream
The value of boosting educational opportunities to empower women is one of the tenets of Soroptimists worldwide and as manifested in the Live Your Dream Program (LYD). SINSD has selected two LYD winners and will honor them with scholarship money at our Awards Luncheon in March.
We identified another strong candidate right after the LYD program cutoff. Outside of, but in the spirit of the program, we decided to similarly honor her with an award as well. And finally, we have chosen to continue supporting one of last year’s winners in her quest to earn her degree.
All four of these women are hard-working single Mom’s pursuing education to better support themselves and their families. Congratulations to them all!
Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls
This Soroptimist-wide program is aimed to help young women envision their best life and direct them toward their education and career goals. SINSD will soon present this seven-week program to a group of female students at Black Mountain Middle School and is working with Girl Scouts of America to offer a workshop in early summer that will earn the girls two badges.
